Introduction
At Oceania Polytechnic and Technological University (OPTU), we are committed to fostering academic success and providing support for students throughout their educational journey. The University Retention Policy establishes clear guidelines for academic performance, ensuring students remain on track to achieve their goals while maintaining the institution's high academic standards. This policy underscores our dedication to accountability, perseverance, and a thriving learning community.
1. Academic Performance Standards
1.1. Failure in 3 Units:
An undergraduate student who fails in three (3) units out of a total academic load of twenty-four (24) units must repeat the failed subjects in the following semester. There will be no reduction in the total academic load.
1.2. Failure in 6 Units:
An undergraduate student who fails in six (6) units out of a total academic load of twenty-four (24) units during a semester will be placed on Probationary Status.
1.3. Probationary Status:
An undergraduate student on probationary status who fails in any subject during the subsequent semester will no longer be admitted to the university.
1.4. Failure in 9 Units:
An undergraduate student who fails in nine (9) units out of a total academic load of twenty-four (24) units will not be readmitted to the university.
2. Additional Guidelines
2.1. Academic Counseling:
Undergraduate students placed on probationary status are required to attend academic counseling sessions to develop a performance improvement plan.
2.2. Reinstatement Appeals:
Undergraduate students who are no longer admitted due to academic failure may submit a written appeal for reinstatement. Appeals are subject to review by the Academic Retention Committee.
2.3. Notification:
Undergraduate students will receive official written notifications of their academic standing, including probationary status or non-readmission decisions.
2.4. Support Services:
Undergraduate students are encouraged to seek support from academic advisors, tutors, and student success programs to address academic challenges and enhance performance.
Graduate Programs
